MediVisuals + High Impact: Showing a Jury What Happened

Medical illustration from Richmond since 1987, 3D forensic animation from Colorado, and jury research. A visuals company that started in the courtroom, not the deposition room.

Most of the companies in No. 1 began with the transcript and worked toward the courtroom. MediVisuals began at the other end: with a medical illustrator, a patient's chart, and a trial lawyer who needed twelve people to understand an injury they would never see.

The workDrawn from the record, built for the jury.

  • Medical illustration

Exhibits drawn from the imaging and the operative notes, so an injury reads the same to a juror as it does to the surgeon. The Richmond studio has done this for nearly four decades.

  • 3D forensic and medical animation

High Impact, founded in Colorado in 1998, reconstructs collisions, mechanisms of injury and surgeries in motion. The two studios have worked as one company since 2024.

  • Jury research

Mock juries and focus groups that tell a trial team which version of the story lands, before the exhibits that tell it are built.

An empty courtroom at night, a medical exhibit of a spine on an easel lit beside the bench
Fewer than one percent of federal civil cases reach a jury. The rest settle on the strength of the story each side can show.

Why it matters nowThe rules caught up with the craft.

Federal Rule of Evidence 107, in force since December 2024, expressly allows illustrative aids such as animations. Verdicts keep getting larger, and law firms are buying more of their trial visuals from outside specialists. A company built around the courtroom is positioned for both trends.

It is run by operators. CEO James Pickren has spent two decades running industrial and services businesses, and the leadership team behind him runs finance, operations and the trial-services practice across both studios.

The Styx view

In a field being rebuilt around court reporting, the companies worth watching are the ones whose work a jury actually sees. That is the reason for this profile, and for the one that may follow it.
